A
WHOLE-PERSON PHILOSOPHY
A “Whole Person” philosophy provides the foundation for healthy change
at Possibility Counseling. Full consideration and support are given to
the client’s entire well-being:
Physical well-being – achieving sleep that restores; learning
physical relaxation techniques; stress management; nutrition education
and resources. Referral to acupuncture, massage therapy, and other
practitioners of complementary therapies
Emotional growth – balancing work, family, friendships, and
community life
Spiritual health – exploring spiritual needs, learning
meditation, referral to specialized counselors
Career vitality – time management, overcoming procrastination,
workplace relationships, increasing professional opportunities
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters,
compared to what lies within us.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

About The Therapy
The Therapies used at Possibility Counseling
include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – to learn techniques for
truly and deeply relaxing and relieving stress. In addition, CBT helps
with symptom relief from specific problems. The client learns more
effective coping strategies to deal with life stressors and difficult
circumstances.
Insight-oriented Approaches – to help increase understanding and
acceptance of events and other experiences of the past that have an
unwanted influence on present life and to focus change efforts for a
positive future. These approaches help toward significant and lasting
change.
Hypnotherapy and Self-hypnosis – for habit change, pain control,
and other clinical uses, where appropriate.
Possibility Therapy – a solution-oriented “method and philosophy
of psychotherapy, usually brief, which stresses respect and
collaboration as well as effectiveness and results,” as described by its
originator, psychotherapist Bill O’Hanlon.
Group Therapy – when clients could benefit from interaction with
others who share similar concerns and therapy goals.
Client Education – on the emotional and social aspects of
problems addressed, as well as related skill-building. As an adult
educator with advanced training and experience, Chere is uniquely
qualified to help clients learn new, effective skills.
Important Facts about Possibility Counseling:
Fees – The Possibility Counseling mission to make the highest
quality therapy services affordable, so financial obstacles will not
keep you from getting the help you need. Sliding scale rates may apply,
depending on your situation. This is a “fee-for-service” private
practice, and fees are due at each session.
Appointment Times – Sessions are scheduled with convenience to
the client in mind. Some evening appointment times are available.
Meeting Frequency and Length of Counseling – Individual
counseling sessions are set on a schedule determined by the client and
therapist, usually weekly to start. The therapy process can be
time-limited and solution-oriented, or it can be a personal growth
experience that is not time-limited. The meeting schedule and length of
counseling depend on several factors, including the client’s goals and
the difficulty of the issues being faced.
Privacy and Confidentiality – Counseling sessions are held in a
comfortable, professional setting—in a private office, located in
Lakewood, Washington.
At Possibility Counseling, your personal privacy and the confidentiality
of your file is considered a top ethical priority. The personal
information shared in sessions and contained in your records is held as
confidential. A client’s written, signed consent is required in order to
release this information to third party.
In keeping with accepted standards of practice, the therapist may
consult with other mental health and health professionals to ensure
quality care or for purposes of training and instruction. If so, every
effort will be made to protect client identity.
There are some exceptions to confidentiality,
required by law:
- If you have informed the therapist of abuse or
neglect of a child, elderly person, or disabled person, the
therapist is required by law to report it to the proper authorities.
- If the therapist believes that you are a clear
and imminent danger to yourself or others, the therapist is required
by law to report it to the proper authorities.
- In group counseling, Possibility Counseling is
not responsible for the actions of participants regarding
confidentiality of information discussed during counseling sessions.
- Possibility Counseling is not bound by
confidentiality when the client is the subject of a criminal
investigation, when the client’s mental health status is an issue
before the court, or when the disclosure of records is
court-ordered.
